FRANCESCO TOSCO (Viola)

… got his first violin lessons at the age of six years and studied violin at Conservatorio „G. Verdi“ of Turin. He finished his diploma with top grade.

Only afterwards during a business study course at „Università degli Studi Turin“ he changed from the violin to the viola, continuing studying with Antonello Farulli. In 2013 he finished his diploma at Conservatorio „G. B. Martini“ of Bologna also with top grade and he went to Switzerland for turther studies with Yuval Gotlibovich at Conservatorio della Svizzera Italiana.

A busy concert activity as well in chamber music as in orchestra playing under conductors like Riccardo Muti, Fabio Luisi, Riccardo Chailly, Gianandrea Noseda, Georges Prȇtre, und Charles Dutoit led him to famous festivals to mention the Bachfest Leipzig, Bad Kissingen, LongLake Festival Lugano, Società del Quartetto, Rome Chamber Music Festival, Serate Musicali di Milano, MiTo Settembre Musica, Abu Dhabi Festival, or the Luzern Festival, often as a solo violist, for example, at the Orchesta of Accademia del Teatro alla Scala under conducting of Fabio Luisi, at the Orchestra of Academy of Luzern Festival, at the orchestras of Bologna (Teatro Comunale under Pablo Heras-Casado as well as at the Filarmonica di Bologna), and as an assistant solo violist at the Orchestra Pomeriggi Musicali di Milano. Furthermore he is a welcome guest in the most important Italian orchestras like the Orchestra dell’Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, Filarmonica della Scala, Orchestra Sinfonica Nazionale della RAI, Orchestra del Teatro Regio di Torino...

Open to new music Francesco Tosco is very much involved in the repertoire of the 20th and 21st century together with specialized musicians like the Ensemble Resonanz of Hamburg and the Luzern Festival Alumni Ensemble joining a special project of Matthias Pintscher in the Elbphilharmonie of Hamburg.

Currently Francesco Tosco is a permanent member of the Philharmonic Orchestra of the Hanseatic City of Lübeck, also being busy with guest projects in famous european orchestras like Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France, Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, Orchestra della Svizzera Italiana, NDR Radiophilharmony of Hanover, Symphoniker Hamburg and the North German Philharmonic of Rostock.

Francesco Tosco plays on a new instrument by Charles Coquet (Paris) of 2012, 2nd price winner of the famous violin maker competition of Cremona.
